10 Days Exploring the best of Uganda Wildlife Safari

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park.

Drive northwest via the well-known Luwero Triangle today, then take the Ziwa Rhino Project to Masindi. A rhino trekking tour that includes a visit to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Drive into Murchison Falls National Park after lunch.

Accommodation: Paraa Safari Lodge, Chobe Safari Lodge, Bakers Lodge.

 Meals: (Lunch, Dinner).

Day 2: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise.

Have a cup of African coffee to start the day. Take a ferry over the Nile to the park’s northern shore after your coffee. Elephants, lions, Cape buffalo, Rothschild’s giraffes, hartebeest, waterbuck, oribi, bushbuck, Bohor reedbuck, hyena, and, with any luck, leopards will all be spotted with the assistance of your guide. Head back to the hotel for lunch and breakfast. Take a boat safari upstream on the serene Victoria Nile after lunch, halting only tens of meters from the “Devil’s Cauldron” and arriving at the base of the falls. Admire the crocodiles and toothsome hippos along the way. You may also spot elephants, waterbucks, Uganda Kobs, and crocodiles throughout this 17-kilometer stretch.

Numerous bird species, including the uncommon shoebill stork, hornbill, cormorant, kingfisher, Egyptian geese, Goliath heron, and pelican bee-eater, can be seen in this area. You disembark from the boat there and begin the strenuous walk (about one hour) to the top of the falls. See where the longest river in the world erupts suddenly, plunging into a frothing pool 43 meters below via a small crack in the Rift Valley escarpment. When you return to the resort, your driver or guide will be waiting for you.

Accommodation: Paraa Safari Lodge, Chobe Safari Lodge, Bakers Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.

All-day journey to Fort Portal through lush terrain, via traditional homesteads and farms along the Albertine Rift escarpments. The mythical Mountains of the Moon cast a shadow above Fort Portal.

Accommodation: Primate Lodge Kibale, Kyaninga Lodge, Ndali Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest.

Report to the Kanyanchu Tourist Centre, where the tourist activities start, after an early breakfast, and begin tracking chimpanzees in the forest. Although there is a 90% chance of seeing the chimps, there is no guarantee. Kibale National Park is one of Uganda’s most exquisite and beautiful forests. It is home to the rare L’Hoest’s monkey, the endangered Chimpanzee, and the endangered Red Colobus monkey—our closest living relatives. The forest is also home to 13 different species of primates, including the Black and White Colobus, Blue Monkey, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, Red-tailed Monkey, Bush babies, and Pottos, making it one of the most diverse and densely populated areas in Africa.

After lunch, go to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, where you can take a guided walk through the swamp and see a variety of plants and animals. See a range of birds, insects, and butterflies. Explore the area surrounding Ndali Lodge, which is a crater. Any tea plantation along the route is open for you to stop at if you’d like. Head back to your lodging for dinner and the night. Visit the “top of the world,” the natural bridge, and take an evening tour of the crater area. You can see the snow cap on the Rwenzori on a clear day.

Accommodation: Primate Lodge Kibale, Kyaninga Lodge, Ndali Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

After breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, taking in the mystical Rwenzori Mountain range for much of the way. While you wait for your lunch, check in at your accommodation. After lunch, go on an afternoon launch cruise down Kazinga Channel, which connects Lakes Edward and George. The boat is a great chance to observe hippo, buffalo, kob, and the occasional Nile crocodile (which did not live in this area until recently), as well as fantastic bird watching on the lake bank. Many people who have taken the launch cruise consider it the highlight of their safari.

Accommodation: Mweya Safari, Katara Lodge, Enganzi Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 6: Full Day in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Get up early and embark on a morning game drive to catch up with early risers and predators returning to their hideouts. You are likely to see grazing hippos, elephants, and lions, as well as spotted hyenas, bush deer, water buck, stripped jackal, hilarious warthogs, and the elusive leopard. Proceed to the Maramagambo woodland. Many surprises await you here, such as pythons in the cracks of the bat cave floor, which feed on bats. The cave is located near the picturesque previously Blue Lake and Hunters Cave. You may also encounter forest birds like bat hawks, brown eared woodpeckers, and primates.

Accommodation: Mweya Safari, Katara Lodge, Enganzi Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Enjoy your breakfast before embarking on a guided Chimpanzee/Primate walk in Kyambura Gorge in search of habituated chimps. After the primate walk, head to Ishasha. You will drive through deep and vast dry craters populated with savanna grasses and acacia. The drive takes you through the distinctive western rift valley escarpment and the Ishasha sector (in the southern section of Queen Elizabeth National Park), where you will go on another wildlife drive in search of tree climbing lions before continuing to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The ride takes roughly 4 hours, although it passes through interesting scenery. Arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the evening. This park is home to rare mountain gorillas. Aside from gorillas, visitors can witness a variety of primates, including blue and red-tailed monkeys. The forest itself is lush and green, with streams running through it.

Accommodation: Gorilla Forest Camp, Buhoma Lodge, Mahogany Springs.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 8: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

After breakfast, go early with guides to track the gorillas. The excitement of your encounter will overshadow the challenges of the potentially strenuous journey. Bring jungle boots and a rain jacket because the park is frequently damp. Spend time marvelling at the gorillas as they go about their daily activities. Each gorilla safari experience is unique and rewarding, but you will most certainly enjoy a close-up view of adults feeding, grooming, and relaxing while the children romp and swing from vines in a charmingly entertaining display.

The stunning green expanse of dense rainforest known as the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is so old that it withstood the previous ice age. One of the most biologically diverse regions on the planet, this newly designated World Heritage site is home to around half of the world’s estimated 720 mountain gorillas, thanks to its rare and valuable vegetation. Additionally, there is a sizable chimpanzee population, and studies reveal that Bwindi is the only African forest where these two apes coexist.

Accommodation: Gorilla Forest Camp, Buhoma Lodge, Mahogany Springs.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 9: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park.

After breakfast, head to Lake Mburo National Park for a game drive. Make a stop at Igongo Cultural Village to learn about Bahima and Ankole culture. This is where the future meets the past. This park is an extension of the Tanzanian plains. Lake Mburo National Park is home to zebras, impalas, buffaloes, hippos, topi, and elands, as well as the uncommon shoebill, crested crane, pelicans, fish eagle, heron, and a variety of other water birds. The evening boat tour amidst the Hippos is breathtaking.

Accommodation: Mihingo Safari Lodge, Mantana Tented Camp.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 10: Return to Kampala – Departure.

After an early breakfast, return to Entebbe with an en-route game drive. You may be lucky enough to see large herds of zebra, impala, eland, warthogs, buffalo, and other savannah species. For birders, this is one of the best places to see African Finfoot, Papyrus, Bush Shrike, and other birds. Continue your drive with a halt at the Equator crossing for lunch before returning to Entebbe to catch your flight home.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch).
